Tips Prior to Tanning
Tip 1 - Shave and exfoliate at least 24 hrs prior to tanning – this will ensure an even tan application.
Tip 2 - Leave yourself enough time - Whether you’re tanning for that special occasion or as part of your weekly routine, ensure you leave enough time for application and development of your tan. Generally, it takes around 15 minutes to apply the tan.
Development times are as follows:
- Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse (Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark) series - 6 - 8 hours (8 recommended); and
- Loving Tan 2 Hr Express (Medium and Dark) series - 2 Hours only.
We recommend you tan 1 - 2 days prior to any special event. This also allows you time to apply an extra layer of tan if you would like a deeper colour. If you are an experienced self tanner, you can apply a second layer of tan 10 minutes after the first coat is applied.
TIP 3 - Have your goodies ready - you will need to have your:
- Moisturiser;
- Loving Tan Applicator Mitt; and
- Favourite Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse or Loving Tan 2 Hr Express Deluxe Bronzing Mousse ready.
TIP 4 - Tan in front of a mirror with good lighting - we recommend you tan yourself in front of a mirror with natural or bright lighting to ensure no spots are missed. It is also handy to use a bathtub, chair or toilet seat to put your leg on while applying tan on the backs of your legs.
Tips During Tanning
TIP 1 - All over colour - ensure that your entire body is covered evenly with the initial bronzers. This ensures the active ingredients are spread evenly over your body to allow a beautiful golden tan to develop.
TIP 2 - Remember to lift up your arms in front of the mirror - always remember to check your arms and other body parts in front of the mirror. It is easy to miss little spots on the bottoms and underneath of your arms.
TIP 3 - Speed Up Drying Time - Stand under a fan or air-conditioner to speed up drying time
TIP 4 - Wear loose fitting dark clothing – For a more natural even application avoid any tight fitting clothing for the duration of the development time.
TIP 5 - The longer you leave the solution on, the darker the tan - the longer the active ingredients in the tan are able to be left on the skin, the darker the skin will become. We recommend
- Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse (Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark) series - 8 hours; and
- Loving Tan 2 Hr Express (Medium and Dark) series - 2 Hours.
TIP 6 - Don't rinse off with soap - gently rinse off excess topical bronzers/colour in the shower with your hands to ensure that the active tanning ingredient is distributed evenly and not scrubbed off.
TIP 7 - Pat dry yourself gently - to ensure that the tan is not rubbed off.
Tips After Tanning
TIP 1 - Use moisturiser daily – to prolong your tan
TIP 2 - Avoid Swimming Pools – if you do wish to swim in a pool, rinse the chlorine water off your skin as soon as possible as chlorine will fade your tan faster
TIP 3 - Avoid excessive sweating – sweating makes the tan come off faster, particularly on the insides of your arms and behind the knees
TIP 4 - Facial Bronzer - an easy way to make a self tan look more natural is to apply your facial bronzer to your neck and décolletage. This gives a more natural looking effect and evens out the skin tones.
TIP 5 - Correcting Streaks – If a professional has left you with streaks don’t despair. To fix streaks or mistakes you can either:
- fill any gaps with your favourite Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse. This ensures a more even tone as white skin next to brown skin looks more obvious as a mistake; or
- If you are in a hurry, use a bronzer over the affected area to blend the colour in.
Tips Removing Tan
TIP 1 - Use the Tan Removing & Skin Polishing Glove – to easily and safely remove any old built up self tan.
TIP 2 - Soak in a bath or spa - Soaking in a bath or spa makes exfoliating old tan much easier as the skin is softened and top layers easier to remove.
